Getting started with Roll

How do I get started with Roll?
Download the app from the Apple App Store or the Google Play Store. Roll guides you through the chat-based setup, which takes 15 minutes or less. That's it. You're set up. And, using Roll for payroll is as easy as sending a text — so no training is needed. Yes, it's that easy!
How do I set up my company?
If you're a business owner/admin and want to use Roll as your payroll service provider, simply chat ‘Start company setup’.
What information do I need to gather to use Roll?
To get started, have your ERN, ROS Certificate and Password, business banking account IBAN and BIC handy. For your employees make sure you have their name, date of birth, address, phone, email, PPSN and hire date.
How do I add employees?
Easy — just chat "Hire employee" and Roll will guide you through the process and invite your team to join you in the app!

Running payroll

How long will it take to run my payroll?
Under a minute! Seems crazy, right? But it’s not — because Roll gets to know your payroll and can predict and prefill the information for you.
How do I run payroll?
If you set up a payroll schedule, you'll be notified a few days before the payroll deadline so you have plenty of time to work on it. Or you can always chat ‘Run payroll’ to make a payment anytime.
How often can I pay my employees?
Unlimited payroll means there's no limit to the number of pay runs you can make in a week, month or year. Need to run extra payrolls or make one-time payments? Go for it! Roll will never charge you for off-cycle or additional pay runs.
Can I run payroll from a mobile phone or tablet?
Absolutely! Roll is an entirely mobile payroll app, allowing you to manage payroll from any iOS- or Android-based device, including tablets. You can also access Roll from any desktop or laptop, Chromebooks included, anytime.
How do employees get paid?
With Roll, you have two great options to pay your employees. You can either use a SEPA file for electronic funds transfer (EFT) or issue manual cheques. Please note: SEPA requires bank authorisation. Find more info in the FAQ immediately below.
What’s needed to use SEPA?

First, you’ll need to get authorisation from your bank. Once granted, you’ll be issued a Bank Reference or Originator's Identification Number (OIN). This is an alphanumeric ID which identifies you as the customer and confirms the type of payment files that you’ll be submitting to the bank for processing. If you aren’t sure what your Bank Reference Number/OIN is – or if you don’t have one, please contact your bank.

Whenever you run payroll, Roll will send you a SEPA file with all the info needed to pay your employees. Simply upload the file to your bank, and the rest is taken care of! 

Where can I find my payroll report / register?
A payroll register is created and emailed to you (and your accountant if you assigned one) after every payroll is processed. You can also go to your timeline icon and scroll down to the ‘Payroll register’ notification for the pay period you wish to view. Tap it to see all the payment details and deductions.
How do I add / update prior amounts paid to employees?
To add prior payroll amounts (also called balances), simply tap the notification on your timeline icon that says ‘Add your previous payroll payments and taxes’.

To update these amounts, just chat ‘Update balances’. Please note, you can only add or update balances in the app until you run your first payroll. After that, you’ll need to contact live support by tapping icon in the app.
Can I pay employees and contractors?
Yes. Roll can pay everyone including full-time, part-time, permanent, temporary and casual employees.
Can I pay ‘off-cycle’?
Yep, it’s one of Roll’s most popular features! Whether you want to pay someone before the next regularly scheduled payday, give someone a bonus, or provide a final payout to someone who resigned or was terminated, all you have to do is chat, ‘Run payroll’ and select an ‘off-cycle payment’. So easy!
Can I give a pay rise with Roll?
Anytime. Just chat ‘Give Bridget a rise’ and answer a few simple questions about Bridget and adjustments to her pay, and you’re all set.
What are the ways Roll can pay workers?
Roll can pay workers in any way that suits your business or industry. Standard options include salary, hourly, and per period.
What's the difference between a bonus vs. pay rise?
When it comes to bonuses and rises, think of a bonus as a high-five for a job well done, and a rise as moving up a whole new level. A bonus is an extra reward for outstanding performance and is subject to tax. A rise, on the other hand, is an increase in an employee’s regular salary or hourly wage. With Roll, you can easily handle both bonuses and rises for your star employees
Can I pay bonuses with Roll?
Anytime. Just chat, ‘Run payroll’ and decide if you want to reward someone right now (off-cycle payment) or give them some extra cha-ching on top of their regular pay. Either way, it’s a few taps and you’re done.

Employee self-service

Can my employees use the app?
Absolutely! We’ll even send them an invite to download their own employee version of the app, so they can view their payslips and tax info, update their banking details, and more.
How do I invite an employee to download Roll?
Once you add an employee to Roll, we’ll automatically send them an invite to download the app. If you need to resend an invite, simply chat ‘Send invite’.
How will my employees get their payslips?
Employees can view their pay summaries and download their payslips right in the app 24/7.
What if my number of employees changes throughout the year?
Roll bills monthly – so you will only be charged for employees who are paid during a given month. And Roll is smart enough to know who got paid when, so there's no need to manually deactivate an employee who is not being paid.

Taxes, withholding, and compliance

Does Roll file payroll taxes for me?
Yes it does. Roll calculates your payroll taxes each pay period and sends the Payroll Submission to Revenue. All you have to do is run payroll.

People management

How do I hire / add an employee?
Anytime you need to hire someone, just chat ‘Add employee’.
How do I terminate / remove an employee?
Anytime you need to remove someone or terminate an employee, just chat ‘Remove employee’. You can always rehire them at a later date if needed.

FYI, ADP only charges a monthly employee fee for employees who are actively being paid by Roll in that month.
How do I rehire an employee?
To rehire someone, simply chat ‘Rehire employee’.
How do I update an employee’s personal information?
Easy! Depending on what you want to do, you can say things like ‘Change employee email’, ‘Update employee name’, ‘Change employee mobile number’, ‘Update employee address’ and more!
How do I change an employee’s job title / position?
To update an employee’s job, title or position, just chat ‘Change employee position’.
How do I see / update an employee’s start date?
If you want to see an existing start date, just chat ‘Update start date’. If you want to change the start date, simply tap the ‘Change Date’ button. Tap the three dots at the top of the conversation to cancel without making any updates.

Does Roll use Generative AI (GenAI)?
It does. In fact, Roll was built on AI to give business owners a frictionless way to process their payroll (as easy as sending a text). Integrating AI technology takes Roll’s capabilities to the next level and makes it even easier for you to access your company data and get valuable payroll and HR guidance in a safe and secure way.
What exactly is GenAI?
It’s a type of Artificial Intelligence that relies on a large language model (LLM) to process natural language inputs and generate responses based on user questions or phrases.
What types of questions can I ask?

You can ask anything related to your payroll and growing your business, like:

Subscription and billing

How much does Roll cost?

Is there a free trial?
Yes! You can try Roll for free for 3 months. See Terms & Conditions.
How do I pay for Roll?
Roll sends you an invoice every month for the payment due.
Do I have to sign an annual contract?
No. We do, however, require 30 days' notice if you choose to cancel your account.
Where can I find my subscription details?
All info regarding your product subscription can be found on the Company tab. To go there, tap icon at the bottom of your screen, then scroll down to the ‘ADP Services’ tile.
How do I change my password?
Your Roll password is tied to the device account that you used to register. To update your password on an iOS device using Apple ID, you can change it from your Apple account settings. To update on an Android device, your password is tied to your Gmail account and can be accessed from your Google account settings.

If you used a different email address for your account, chat ‘Log out’. Once you’re back on the main login screen, enter your email address and tap ‘forgot / change password’.
How do I cancel this service?
If you wish to cancel your Roll subscription, please call 1800 811 811. Our team is available 08:00 to 17:00, Monday - Friday.

Security and privacy

What happens to my data?
All data for clients of Roll Ireland is hosted in the European Union and never leaves the EU territory. It is safeguarded in a secure cloud environment. Further, your data is encrypted in transit and at rest, and sensitive information, such as PRSNs and addresses, is tokenized to prevent unauthorized access.
How secure is Roll?
Very. Roll uses the latest in app security protocols, which have been rigorously tested by our Global Security team. With Roll, you get the ease, intelligence, and accuracy of an innovative payroll app with the expertise, reliability, and security of ADP, the biggest name in payroll.

Who do I contact for help?
Open the Roll app and tap icon at the top of your screen. If you don’t find what you’re looking for there, scroll to the bottom of the page to chat with a live agent. Our support team is available 08:00 to 20:00, Monday - Friday.
What are your customer service hours?
Roll offers support Monday - Friday, from 08:00 to 20:00.

How do I add / update / remove my accountant?
To add or make changes to your existing accountant info, simply chat ‘Update accountant’.
Will I be able to view my payslips on the app?
Absolutely! Roll sends you a notification when it’s payday. All you have to do is tap it to see your payment details. Or you can even chat, ‘Show me my payslips’ and Roll will give you links to your most recent payslip on the spot!
Are payroll reports available with Roll?
You can request reports for a single employee, multiple employees, one pay period — or many. Just tell Roll in chat what you’re looking for. You can say things like ‘Prior pay for Colin’, ‘August payroll’, ‘YTD payroll’, etc. FYI, Roll will also send an email containing payment and deduction details in an Excel format following the close of each pay period.
Can I use Roll on a desktop or laptop?
Yes, Roll is available for both. Once you sign into the mobile app, you'll see a scanner icon at the bottom of your screen. Just tap, scan – and voila! Instant big-screen access. Plus, the ability to run payroll (and keep up with other business demands) whenever – and wherever you like.
Can I sign up if I already ran payrolls this year?
Yes. Just provide a few details and you’re good to go! ADP will automatically reflect any previous payroll payments and tax deductions you made for your employees or contractors.
